A mason is required to help another mason where possible, so the possibilities for corruption inherent in the system are enormous.
Their system of "belief" draws heavily on Cabbalistic references to Hiram Abif, the Great Architect who built solomons temple. Or so they claim. Most of it was made up in the 19th century by people with too much time on their hands.
A Freemason is a member of a corrupt and evil society although this does not mean all are corrupt and evil.
They 'control' everthing from Councils, Police and Courts the list is almost endless. Log on to vomit.cc and make your own minds up, this is only the tip of the iceberg, I know from personal experience
They are a society "to make good men better". And not only men, since there are over 50000 women freemasons in Britain and many more in the rest of Europe. The secret aspects are connected with symbolism. They raise more for charity than any other organisation. There aren't as many police or businessmen in it as people think.
