Happily I never heard my parents rowing, but thats not to say they didn't.    They have been married for many years.
My mum and dad have their moments, but have been together 53 years. My grandparents were the same....loved each other to bits, but argue.....!!!!
My parents just celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.  Growing up, I certainly heard them argue about one thing or another...as they grew older, it seemed like they'd argue more out of habit than disagreement.  Whatever, apparently there was more that they agreed than disagreed with, since they're still together.  But, to answer your question, I don't think it's unusual for a married couple to have their differences and the occasional row.
I forgot to mention, in some cases, that's the only way that couples know to communicate (my great-aunt and great-uncle are an example).  They don't know how to have a discussion or conversation, everything always turns into an argument.  But it seems to keep them happy.
I remember my parents arguing one time. Possibly, vaguely one other time. Surely they argued more than that but not in front of us kids. That was 30 years ago also.
We were brought up on love & plenty of arguments! But Mum & Dad had been married 63 years when Dad died. Mum followed 20 months later as she just couldn't live without him. I believe they call it a broken heart - which just goes to show that you can argue, but still love each other - odd but true!
My parents used to row like hell and as kids it was  so upsetting for us to hear them shouting and my mum throwing things. This eased over the years but I can still see myself and my sister sat on the stairs as kids crying.
Sorry, forgot to add that when my Dad died my Mum followed hin 18 months later, she said she had lost her lifes partener and was waiting to join him so Im with you there Smudge.
Ah, that is so sad FINA. But they're together again now, well that's what I like to think. -x-

Fina

I'm there with you as well.  My mum and dad rowed like crazy - I'm suprised I ever passed an 'o' level as I could never get any revision done for the constant rowing. My dad chucked plates and all sorts, me and the dog used to sit crying up a corner.

That was about 20 years ago now and they are still together after 42 years (although not rowing thankfully!) At least they stuck together, people these days would have chucked the toewl in long ago without trying to work at their marriage.

Smudge,Sammy it does make you wonder, all those years of rowing but still staying together! I like to think that my dad and mum are together, still rowing LOL.

Mine got divorced!

Hi Georgit79, How did you feel when your parents divorced? Was it a relief for you? ( I mean if they rowed constantly). Hope you wont mind me asking.

Mine divorced back in the 1980s. The feeling of empowerment after the b'stard who fathered me left was particularly sweet. Neither of them remarried.
