Do you mean Horace Thomas BARNABY (though I admit I would be surprised if you did - his place in history being a member of the Michigan state house of representatives 1869-72)
His son was Horace T. Barnaby, Jr. (1870-1952) who was involved in Michigan state politics, and twice failed to be selected as the Republican candidate for Lietenant Governer of the state.
He probably was a big shot in his day, but his day is long past!

Thomas BARNADO was an Irishman, born in Dublin in 1845. An Evangelical Christian, he moved to London and quickly discovered the terrible conditions of London's homeless children. He opened his first 'Ragged School' in Stepney - the first of 50 orphanages in London alone. And yes, thousands of Barnardo's children were sent abroad... especially to Canada and Australia. I guess being Barnardo's son was shorthand for being one of the orphans or destitute kids he helped. See
