When was Christmas Day made a holiday in Scotland

I cannot be certain on this, but I'm fairly sure it was around the time of the second world war.

Just checked, the answer is actually 1958! Remember though, New Year is traditionally the big one up here.

Agreed........I can remember as a kid that my dad had to work Christmas Day.......the traditional holiday was always New Year.  Now there`s a push on to have St Andrews Day as a holiday.
My hubby has to work on Xmas Day,Boxing Day and New Years Day. He works for a japanese firm and they dont consider bank holidays!
Wasn't New Year only made a holiday in England some time in the 70s?
