I have recently acquired a postcard addressed simply to one "Zeff Cheff esq. Ont.". It was posted in Toronto and It is dated Feb. 1911. I have tried to discover where Big Point, Ontario is situated. I have found references to Big Bay Point, Big Cedar Point and even a Big Point road but not Big Point itself. Can anyone help me please? Better still if you can tell me anything about Zeff Cheff himself that would be something but I guess that is hoping too much.

Hmm. The only Zeff Cheff I can find is a character in a gaming story - must be named after an original (pirate cook, it says). Don't forget that there were less people 100 years ago, the postmen used to know their clients more intimately than they do now, the name of the town might be wrongly named by the sender but the Canadian PO would probably have been able to decipher where it was going!

I should clarify that the address on the postcard reads: Zeff Cheff esq. Big Point, Ont.
boxtops, I think you have fond a character called chef Zeff not Zeff Cheff. I can also add that the postcard in question was from a salesman who sold Red Rose tea to inform Zeff Cheff he would be calling in a few days for his order. This would make him a regular visitor on his round and as such he would be very informed of both his customer and his place of business.
There is someone who posts on AB under name of Stewey. I believe he is Canadian. If you can locate him he may be able to offer some help.
There was a census in Canada in 1911 and I found that there was a Zephir Cheff in Ontario. Presumably Zeff could be short for Zephir. With a little more research I'm sure you could find more about him and where he lived.

Thank you spudqueen. That is a very useful start; I'm sure it would be the same person as both Christian and surname are a tad unusual. Zephir sounds Old Testament to me but doesn't appear in my Bible dictionary. I'll follow your lead and seee where it leads, thanks again.
