Can anybody recommend someone to advise a person who has reached a bit of a crossroads in their career [not, I hasten to add, me!]?

There are professional career counsellors who can help identify skills and strengths, and work through options, as well as assisting with re-shaping CVs for a change of career. Contact your local university careers office - there's usually a charge but not huge - the one at the University of London charges about �90 for a session.
totaljobs.com provide a very useful and free "Career Health Check Report" within three days of completing their 20 minute questionnaire. Mine was produced within half a working day!
