According to the MJ autobiography I'm reading, the moonwalk was taught to MJ by Geron "Casper" Candidate. He was a dancer on the TV programme Soul Train and MJ asked him to teach it to him. It was actually called the backslide, the moonwalk is when you do it in a complete circle, but MJ's backslide has incorrectly become known as the moonwalk.
