i have searched the web and found nothing.  in the 60s a guy whose surname was cisco (i think) was apparently wrongfully convicted of rape and murder after he was found to be retarded and the police made him sign a confession.  the man that got him freed was called waddington and he (waddington) later went on to become home secretary under margaret thatcher.  can anyone provide info on this or a website that i can look at?

It's a case that's always saddened me.

Stefan Kizsko, a tax clerk from Rochdale was wrongfully imprisoned in 1975 for the murder of Lesley Molseed from the same town. He was released in 1992 following an appeal but died a year later still only in his late thirties. His mother, who'd stood by him throughout campaigning for justice died a couple of years later.

David Waddington was QC for the defence at Stefan Kizsko's trial.

Lesley Molseed's murderer has never been traced.

Good grief, I'd forgotten that Stefan's mother only survived him by six months. How cruel must it have been for her to lose her son twice? I don't latch on to causes easily, but this one really had ill-luck all the way through it, to put it mildly. Very, very sad.
