I'm not into angling myself but several people I've spoken to have commented about problems with fish poaching by east european immigrants.

They say this was never a problem before the influx of migrant workers. It seems alot of large ponds seems to be having this problem? Is this a countrywide thing and why is it happening?

Not sure how they know its the Polish or whoever - guess they get caught from time to time and it always seems to be the Eastern Europeans. Poaching has always gone on but the way anglers are talking about it makes it seem like an epidemic!

it's because carp is a polish national dish.
Some East Europeans eat fish that we don't. Carp is considered a great delicacy.

but why think its OK to steal it?
Why does anyone think it's ok to steal anything, it's not just eastern Europeans that steal things, we have a pretty good history of English people stealing things too.

Perhaps they don't regard it as stealing. They may not know the laws. They see a lake and think it's OK to fish
We English prefer to keep our carp for the sport of tiorturing them by repeated hooking and suffocation. So that's OK, then

Down here there have been big problems with people taking Carp and also the big Pike (which are almost exclusively the mature breeding females) 'for the pot'. The river banks now have these:

Doc - perhaps ypu'd like to be reincarnated as a carp?
"carp are cold blooded without a central nervous system"

What??

Yes they are cold blooded, but of course they have a central nervous system, all Bilateria have a central nervous system otherwise they simply wouldn't be able to function at all.
Whoop whoop!

doc... in simple terms the Central Nervous System in Vertebrates comprises of the spinal cord and brain... based on this information you are wrong.

The Lateral Line is a visible line along the side of a fish consisting of a series of sense organs that detect pressure and vibration...
Just another excuse to have a go at anyone who is not English!

Could'nt possible be that Eastern Europeans do not know its illegal, but of course the English NEVER do anything illegal!

I say English not British as they obviously don't do it in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland
Don't rise to it doc, it'll be you in trouble! in my youth I once 'speared' a carp with an arrow and it swum away like nothing had happened. Hence I agree that they feel nothing
