I always thought the word was Mathematics, so why do Americans say
Math, as in, do the Math, I saw an advertising board in the station with that on it.
London underground, not my favourite place, dirty, crowded, but one mainline station always has part of the escalators down in the morning, so they block off the entire section to get down to the line, which means a very long walk to get to it, and took me 20 minutes, if you are elderly, infirm, or disabled, its a nightmare.
As to Bluto who i sat next to on the train, i had to find another seat, this was early by the way, munched on a big mac, fries, the works, the smell was appalling, then left all the rubbish on the seat, what an a*se.

any you care to share.

When you're at the till at the supermarket and buying lots of what is clearly the same item and they put each one through individually. I know it's only seconds in my day but it gets right on my wick.

One of my pet hates are those who haven't the imagination to write anything fresh but merely snear at those who do. And beso - 'Another is those' should be Another ARE those'. If you must be hypercritical try using the English as she should be done.
she should be done??
Quite, lew.. sneer is the word............ using the English as she should be done?????
No lew, beso is correct - another (gripe) IS those is accurate.
Sorry. Just my take on the old expression 'Writing English as she should be writ'
And while we are at it, you are mixing your singulars and plurals.

One of my pet hates is those who haven't the......

One of my pet hates is people who can't write English properly.
LOL DT, we have been here before!
I have just tried "Googling" that quote and can not find a reference to it. Could you please cite the author for it? Thanks.
Yep, you're right. I stand corrected.
True, Boxtops, but no semi-colonic or colonic irrigations tonight!
Blimey, you do have a short memory. It was ME.
Actually, Lew, there are many around AB who get seriously tweaked about grammar. We all make mistakes, in part driven by the want to get the response published, as if in a conversation and make typos and verbal slip-ups.

What drives me crazy is when someone publishes twenty lines of continual prose without the use of any punctuation, or even Capitals. It becomes very difficult to read and comprehend. In fact, I tend to ignore those threads.
At the risk of ingratiation I agree, but only up to a point. Sometimes the need to express an opinion overcomes the need for accuracy so the odd lower case i is forgiveable but where it's bad enough to impede the sense of the message is where I draw the line.
