the syllable 'man' should be dropped from the word 'chairman' isn't also right and proper to drop it from the word 'woman'?

'Wo'

Yeah...has a ring to it...
Which is why the word 'Wimmin' was coined......
I thought that is why they came up with chairperson, spokesperson.
how would you term manhole cover then?
Steady........we're getting into the realms of Chairperthing.......

Are we all destined to become hu-person beings?
I do not go along with what is now often said...'Chairperson'.

If we do as you suggest Lew we shall have to say 'Woperson'.

I say..Bring back sex as it was originally. :-)

Don't misunderstand me Ron - I'm with you all the way. I was just following on with that stupid assertion. And em10, again, if we use 'manhole' shouldn't we also be able to use 'woman . . .' perhaps not.
Incidentally, who are these 'certain women' this time.........?
Lewpaper, thats what i meant..
Manhole; Manicure; Manic; Mankind; etc, etc.

Lew,...It's the women who burnt their Bras are trying to Manipulate things of which we seem to agree can be left as they are. All this PC is, in my opinion, a lot of Manure.

Ron.
Goodness, I haven't had this argument since 1972.
but surely person has son in it and that's male so really woman should become "woperoffspring"!
Interesting...you take the man out of woman and what do you get...woe LOL (Not sure who has the woe though!!)
we used to have a Guy at work called Norman Chapman who was renamed Norperson Personperson and then Norperoffspring Peroffspringperoffspring.

Hiya Jack. Well, there's Gladys, Beryl, Renee (you must remember Renee after what she did to your trousers), George and I think there were one or two more. But what do you mean 'this time'? How often are you looking for women then?
I just wondered whom these 'certain women' were as mentioned in your OP.
I don't recall any recent 'chatter' on this topic unless as jno points out you are channelling your question to us from 1972.........?
Question Author
Didn't realise the only subjects worthy of discussion are distant cousins of those already raised sometime in the past Jack. Glad you're here - could've dropped a real clanger.
Happy to have helped.......
I think there are plenty of alternative terms that avoid gender issues without sounding ridiculously contrived.
eg. "how would you term manhole cover" ? How about 'inspection hatch'?
"Fireman"(potentially "fire-woman"/"fire-person") has already been altered without recourse to silly 'PC' terms, we now refer to them as "firefighters".
