Amy Winhouse and the Norway tragedy - pointless comparisons....
41 Answers
I have been sickened by some of the horrible comments i have heard about aw...on here, on facebook, in life etc - its one thing to dislike her and not care shes gone, but to be glad & wish her dead - some even wishing theyd killed her is abhorrent.
But what interests me here is the ones that choose to compare the situation to the Norway tragedy...expressing anger that some people have the nerve to care at all about AW too...and making statements such as 'what about those kids eh?' and 'why care about a druggie after what happened in norway?' - as though there is a limit to compassion & you cannot comment on AW without also mentioning the NT, otherwise you dont care as much as them...
some appear to be claiming anyone who has expresses sadness for AW is scum because there is a worse tragedy to care about.
Its as though they believe they need to prove their compassion and are trying to 'out do' others on who cares most, and how they are angrier than everyone else at the loony in norway...
some even claim that some people care MORE for aw than the NT...(yet when asked to name a single person who has said that, their 'argument' rather falls down)...
and yet, in the same breath, they are revelling, laughing and sneering in a death, and wishing pain and violence and even murder on a young woman...
...totally failing to realise the irony.
its seems to some that taking recreational drugs makes you no longer human and therefore normally good people are totally allowed to abuse and kill you... and be hailed as heroes for it.
it seems to some that taking recreational drugs is a far worse crime and a bigger sin than murder and violence...
any thoughts..?
(just for the record, i am not a fan of AW, nor does her death affect me)

I noticed one tweet from a gossip columist who was expressing dismay that many of the Sunday papers were leading with the Norway story and not Amy. One of his comments was along the lines of "can't believe they are going with Norway for front pages, that happened yesterday". That's a pretty disgusting attitude in my opinion.

I can't get my head round it either.
I really struggle with the mentality of some people. I deleted people off FaceBook over their comments regarding AW....
My mate was a heroin addict....it didn't stop him being a lovely person. It didn't stop him treating me with love and respect. It didn't tempt him to rob my house!!!

There are many different viewpoints of different subjects, and I suspect some folk feel that a tragedy that they consider to be self inflicted calls for no sympathy, and indeed feel the individual should be castigated for setting a bad example. Not so those who were innocently caught up in another's murderous activity.
I may feel more compassionate towards those who are victims of their own failures, but I can see that others may feel differently.

I think what intrigues many people (me included) joko, is not so much a comparison between Amy Winehouse (whom I have only just heard of as a result of her death) and the Norwegian deaths, but that people should shed so much grief over the death of somebody who they don’t know, have never met, are never likely to have met and who had no effect on their lives whatsoever (apart from, perhaps, influencing their choice of music).
Any death is tragic and I would not lessen that tragedy because of the lifestyle of the deceased. But the tragedy hits the friends and family of the departed. It is not tragic for those that don’t know her and it is certainly not “devastating” for them as I heard it described over the weekend.
I cannot get to grips with this public wailing and gnashing of teeth over the death of strangers. It seemed to start when the nation collectively lost its marbles over the death of the Princess of Wales. From what I understand Ms Winehouse’s fans should have prepared themselves for something like this to occur as it seemed that there was a good chance that she would suffer a premature death. But the only effect that death will have on those not close to her is that they will no longer have any fresh recordings to buy (once the “posthumous” releases have all finished). That is scarcely tragic by any stretch of the imagination.

It is tragic NJudge as AW was too young to die. We shared her talent, she was a product of our shores and we grieve more for those we know.
It's rumoured Amy died of 'dodgy' drugs, which makes her death worse, too early in her life leaving us feeling robbed.
Never be complacent about drugs as it can hit anyone & any family.
