They often don't believe what is written in their holy book and they don't follow its guidance.

I know many so called Christians that I would not trust, have virtually no morals etc but they still call themselves Christians. Maybe this because they were Christened or baptised into this religion, is that enough to be able to call yourself a Christian.

Personally I am more likely to put my trust in an Atheist!

The essence of Christianity might be summed up in just a few words from Mark 12:29. "Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater..."
sandy, i hardly know my neighbours, that is life for you...

sandy, not really, i do not believe in foisting myself on others, especially when they are not often around, we live a transient life, and i am not one to put my nose in where it is not wanted.

>>>The essence of Christianity might be summed up in just a few words from Mark 12:29. "Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater..."<<< but only if your neighbour is a Christian and not gay or else God want your neighbour dead!!
Goodlife, no one except your alter ego, Elderman, and your cohorts knows where you're coming from or what you're talking about. Therefore, unless your intention is to preach to yourself and to the already converted, all your posts are wasted.
My neighbout is Buddhist and she gives me a big hug whenever we meet.

Pneumatic bliss!
Those words were spoken nearly two thousand years ago by Jesus Christ in his famous Sermon on the Mount. In the centuries since, much has been said and written about that simple statement. Among other things, it has been extolled as “the very essence of Scripture,” “a summary of the Christian’s duty to his neighbour,” and “a fundamental ethical principle.” So well-known has it become that it is often referred to as the Golden Rule. But Ask yourself: ‘Would I like to be treated respectfully, fairly, honestly? Would I like to live in a world without racial prejudice, crime, and war? Would I like to be in a family in which everyone showed concern for the feelings and welfare of others?’ Actually, who would say no to such possibilities? The grim reality is that very few enjoy these conditions. For most people, it is almost too much to hope for such things.
