Why are we so anti Olympics?
68 Answers
Are we unique among host nations for sla66ing the event off? I see nothing but negative b1tching on here. Did China, Australia, Spain, Greece etc all have a vast batch of naysayers or is Britain unique in this 0rgy of self loathing? It's like we must find something to sl4g off, even the perfectly reasonable logo gets its share of bile, I just can't fathom it!

I think this is the answer. There are always those who like to moan, but I think we tune them out by default. Knowing that you couldn't buy tickets, but someone else who happens to work for a sponsor gets theirs for free is a bit annoying. Not very inclusive at all.

I think it's a several fold problem the main points being:-
a. A fear that the opening ceremony will be naf with a few Morris Dancers, jellied eels and Pearly Kings and Queens kicking about singing Chas and Dave songs- after the Chinese effort I think people are apprehensive about how well we can do.
b. No-one can get any tickets- THAT I think is the main thing to be honest, it's elitist and appears to be underhand and corrupt and very much what the Olympics shouldn't be about.
c. the vast expense and lack of legacy- nothing meaningful will be left behind for the country except a huge debt.
d. The logo and kit does look as though it's been designed by a 7 year old circa 1975- truly awful in terms of style, taste and successfully maiking anyone want to wear it.
e. Cheer up- however badly you do, think of how bad it would have been if it'd have been held in Northern Ireland;-)

As far as moaning goes, it depends what the moan is. Some criticisms I think are perfectly valid, but what seems a pity are the scatter-gun "it'll all be crap" type moans, and also those based on poor information: for example a couple of people have claimed that the venues will all be temporary: in fact almost all of the Olympic Park venues are permanent. The rest already exist (and will have cost a lot less to provide). So there is a sporting legacy already.
I have a feeling that the opening ceremony might be rather good and am sorry we're going to miss it.
As for the complaint about "no one getting any tickets" goes that I think is complete nonsense with respect.
Not sure I understand the point about Northern Ireland above, but if it cheers up the moaners then that has to be a good thing I suppose...
