hows yours? do you think it matters how much general knowledge someone has? Someone i know was called stupid for not knowing a capital city that most people probably would have known..... but its not like it makes a person more intelligent, its just randomly storing facts.

Im one of those who cant remember a thing but i surprise myself watching silly tv quiz shows sometimes and loads of times when i dont know then they give the answer im like...'ah yeah'

A wise man is not one who knows much, but one who knows where to find his information.

Only if that person is a quizzer :-)
I'm still learning and can find a lot of new information in Quizzes and Puzzles
'ow do Pix.

Depends on what the general knowledge questions are I guess doesn't it? For example you'd expect every adult person who lives here in the UK to know what our own capital was wouldn't you? I think to not know very basic GK such as that is worrying!
I have a brain full of useless information, great for quizzes etc, won't get me a job though. I'm certainly not stoopid, but I don't think I would consider myself intelligent.

It's all about retentive memory.
I seem to have a lot of GK and like you pdust, I sometimes find myself wondering how I knew the answer to a question. I guess......no I really don't know.

evening boo..... lol i was meaning more than basic ... the country in question was belgium i think..... i just thought it was out of order being called stupid for not knowing that.... its just a useless fact, unless like as already been said the person is into quizzes.

thats about what i meant rocky :)

i am hopeless if its a straight question and answer, my brain just doesnt work in a way able to get the info out .... but when its multiple choice (obviously jogs memory) i sometimes know the answers to the strangest things lol ...
I read somewhere that it’s not the information you gather that is important, but the questions you ask. Intelligent people never stop asking questions - and, hence, they never stop learning.
My daughter must be super clever then, she never stops asking questions ;)
Good for her!

I’ve posted this elsewhere today – but I believe it sums it up perfectly.

I'm watching an episode of Classic Millionaire and the contestant has just had this question: Picardy is a region of which country?

A - France
B -Switzerland
C - Spain
D - Italy

He had no idea, so phoned a friend. His friend also had no idea. In the end, he got it right with a complete guess.

Would you call that "general" knowledge?
Which capital city ? Go on, test us all !
THenry, are you French or were you educated in a French school?
maybe general ignorance !
Mine is shocking.
Knowledge and intelligence are not directly related but those with the latter just seem to acquire more of the former in the way they lead their lives.
Remember the 11 plus exam ? That was an IQ test. But to survive at a Grammar School one had to develop the ability to learn. By learning one possibly gained more general knowledge but as you get older you forget everything anyway so what was the bloody point ? !
