There seems to be a lot of effort in recent years to insult Mohammad, seemingly just for the heck of it. This has led to a lot of unpleasantness due to Muslims feeling they need to protest against this sort of thing and so in and so forth.

So why bother insulting him in the first place, what does it achieve?

lightbulb, Muslims deny that Jesus is the Son of God and part of the Holy Trinity - The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost.

That is a huge insult to Christians but they publish that belief and state it in public.

If I want to depict pictures of a naked Queen Elizabeth, Cameron on the toilet, Jesus smoking pot and Mohammed drinking beer and eating bacon sarnies and publish those pictures I will. There is no law to stop me.
<you could draw it if you want, but than you should not publish it>

Why not?

< you're doing everything that goes against their religion>

There is no obligation on me to <go> for or against Islam -
it is of no importance to me
and the fact that it is of no importance to me should be of no importance to any Muslim

It is none of their business what I think of Mohammed or how I choose to draw him or whatever

It is very simple

I respect their right to have their beliefs and do what they do (as long as they're not doing harm to someone else)

I require them to show me the same respect
fine. but that is my view and i will stick by it

Christians have also offended muslims in the past during the crusades and various other times. They have both done so its not like christians are the victims in that case nor are the muslims. They both did it.
Why not ? Is he sacred or something ?
yes
<sacred>

lightbulb

He might be to you

He's not sacred to me

I will say what I like about him/it/them

Get over it
i was answering it for myself, not for you.
Fine

so don't expect that view to influence other people's views or my behaviour
lol, thats like asking for the impossible.
Not really

People's views and behaviours are influenced and changed all the time

Thing is, in order to achieve that you need an engaging and persuasive argument - and 'he's sacred - so there'

probably isn't very convincing
lol, i was being sarcastic.
OK

:-)
lightbulb, you are dredging up history long gone.
Today Muslims publicly deny Jesus is the Son of God.
The Church of England today makes no slur against the Islam religion.
//Today Muslims publicly deny Jesus is the Son of God. //

of course they do as thats not part of their religion. Yes, than according to this you can say things against islam, which by all means you can. But than theres a huge difference between mocking a religion and just critisizing it
There is a huge difference between mocking a religion and blowing up non-believers.
//blowing up non-believers.//

if i had a pound for every time someone mentioned in a thread about islam blowing up i would be rich. The fact is is every muslim blowing themselves up? no.
meant muslims blowing up.
<mocking a religion and just critisizing it >

Neither should make any difference to a 'believer' unless they have a desire to impose their beliefs on other or they are very insecure in their beliefs
No, not every Muslim is blowing him or herself up but it is a fact that some do, in the name of religion.
It is also a fact that some Imams are in favour of suicide bombings and Jihad and such radical fanatics preach passionately and persuasively about it.
It is also a fact that some people live in fear of their lives because there is a Fatwa due to creative writing or other non important thing they did.
It is a fact that people are put to death in some countries for criticising Mohammed or Islam in general.
It is a fact that in the UK some people have been put to death by Muslims in 'honour' killings, in the name of Islam.

We are very fortunate to live in a liberal country where we as individuals can practice the religion of our choice, or none at all; where we can change religion if we want to.

Such liberalness needs freedom of speech. Freedom of speech gives us all the right to air our views in public. We all have the freedom to choose to take offence or not.
maybe for once the media should focus on showing all the good muslims and what they try to do instead of focus on only the bad.
