How do I say what I'm feeling?

My name is Malik. About a week ago, I went to a surprise birthday party for my best friend. The party was great. I met someone there name Steven. He goes to our schoo as well. I've seen him around school but the party was the first time I talked to him. The minute we had a first conversation I fell in love. I know I'm in love because he's always on my mind, I get weak whenever I'm around him and other reasons. My friend suggested that I tell him I'm in love with him to get it off my chest. This might be the right decision but idk how to say that to him. I know he won't react badly because he's a very nice person but I'm afraid of what he'll think of me. How do I tell him that I'm in love with him without scaring him off.

Presuming he is gay... Casually ask him if he is in a relationship with anyone. If not, tell him that you're not either and am looking for a nice chap to start a relationship with. Observe his reaction and go from there.

Could be a crush, we have all had them and been convinced its love, usually when you are young and daft!
