jayne, where I lived in Surrey (St John's) there was a big italian community, no idea why. One of out neighbours was italian and through her we found out that many of the italian expats made their own wine in the traditional manner. If you were "in the know" you would hear when the containers (yes multiple) of grapes were coming into the country and people would turn up with trucks and lorries to carry them home. She also has a proper pizza oven in her garden and again "knew" the right builder to employ. We only lived there for a couple of years and never built the oven or made the wine but its amazing isn't it how many unknown micro cultures there are in the UK.
The name of the island and the name of the capital ( Puerto Rico and San Juan, respectively) are supposed to have been muddled up. The island is believed to have been called San Juan originally ( many islands are called after Saints - like St Thomas, St Martin, ), and the capital would be Puerto Rico, (which makes more sense, since Puerto means Port) but someone drew up a map and put the name of the capital in bigger letters, so subsequent sailors got the names the wrong way round.
