Sharia Law in UK

There are a lot of Islamic groups in the UK who put up posters in streets saying this is a "Sharia Law" controlled areas and offenders will be punished.

How can they possibly expect British people to abide to this and expect people to adhere to this in their own country?

They are just trying their luck.

It's never going to happen.
please define "a lot" and tell me how you know it isn't half a dozen teenagers?
Even if it is half a dozen teenagers, it is still not acceptable in this country.
Thanks for the link Naomi glad to see it is being treated exactly the same as any other 'hate crime'
Well it makes a difference doesn't it?

A few people can sneak around at night and put up some threatening posters and it tricks the weak and fearful into thinking they are a large group with serious power and influence - that they are a real threat to their way of life.

The internet can be very similar - it's easy for people to grab more attention than they warrant.

Lazy trash journalists pick up on it and run stories giving these people more credibility and before you know it those with knocking knees are writing to their MPs about the "growing threat" or whatever.

Then some hot heads decide to "take action".

The way muslims are portrayed these days bears a shocking similarity with Jews in 30s Germany and the psychology is exactly the same!

Look at these different people! They are a threat! We must take action!

Wouldn't surprise me if the BNP put up such posters!

Well I'd be surprised if they were that bright!
Sorry, posting that link has thrown the screen out of sync for me (as it does for those using IE9), so I can't see the right hand side of the comments - they've disappeared under the adverts), but yes, Jake, it does make a difference. The people leading this initiative are influential.
how does that actually work? does it mean that anyone who enters 'the zone' is expected to uphold sharia law?

how is it enforced? I'm sure if I got a summons to appear in a sharia court I'd simply not turn up.
i have seen photo's of them, assume that they are taken down pretty damn quick, if not then someone should be looking into it.
Those who post such notices would be intending to act as vigilantes combining the police, prosecution and hangman in the same group.

You won't get a summons.

There is certainly similarity of these muslims with events in the Second World War. However it isn't a similarity between the muslim and the Jews but an unmistakably fascist component in Islam.
//How does that work?//
It's not supposed to work; it's supposed to make a point.
JTP, i don't see the correlation at all, in fact if anything these people are being treated much more leniently. Take a walk around the East End these days, it ain't as portrayed on that programme that's for sure.
beso, fascist indeed. If you think that the worst Islam has to offer, hatred of homosexuals, women as second class citizens, in many places denied basic rights, can see how this shouldn't be working in Britain, a progressive modern country. It has taken a long time to get where we are in law and legislation to protect people, those marginalised by society and now we are having to educate and inform citizens who have settled here, who's backwards thinking is pervading our society and like as not do not share our goals of a free society.
I've emailed the Ed to ask that my post with the long link be removed. I and other IE9 users can't see the right hand side of any of the posts because of it, and are therefore unable to respond to them. The 'report' button and the 'best answer' button have also disappeared under the adverts.

Re-posting this with short lines – the right hand side of the
original disappeared under the adverts. :o/

Hope this works!
Well, we've had no reports of women being stoned to death for adultery,
thieves having a hand cut off, or executions for blasphemy against Islam,
here yet.If that happens, the perpetrators will be dealt with as criminals.

There can be no objection to Sharia courts, if they act within the law
as Jewish courts do.
Fred, Sharia courts already operate
in the UK. As is the case for Jewish
courts, they are used for settling
cultural domestic issues and are not
recognised in UK law.

These posters, however, demand
much more. They read:

YOU ARE ENTERING A SHARIA CONTROLLED ZONE.
ISLAMIC RULES ENFORCED.
No alcohol.
No gambling.
No drugs or smoking.
No music or concerts.
No porn or prostitution.

For obvious reasons I won’t post another
link, but if anyone wants to google
‘Sharia Posters’, they are not difficult to
find.
And how are the advertisers proposing to enforce the Sharia law against the activities they object to ? Bit difficult to do without breaking the law of the land.
Fred, I can't see all of your post,
but I get the gist. No idea - but
I wouldn't discount the possibility
that they put pressure on people
of their own culture.
^ It read "activities they object to, without breaking the law of the land" ^
naomi.
