I've been invited to the afters of a wedding by a workmate. What I need to know is what do you buy a "casual" friend/workmate for a wedding present?
I was thinking of just giving a £50 voucher.

I think that would be fine.
Posh bottle of champagne?

Over the top if you ask me.
Don't ask Mick, £50 voucher seems fine
Rather a lot for a casual friend

Over the top MT? anything less would seem a bit mean, wouldn't it?
I'd have thought somewhere about £20 would be acceptable, as you say they're a "casual friend/workmate" not a family member, we have tended to give about £30 to family members, but it has to be your choice. :0)
Haven't they got a wedding present list? I thought everyone had them nowadays. Save a lot of duplicate toasters being bought.
Do you mean you are just going to the evening do? If so, I think a voucher is fine.
Do they not have a wedding list though?
Give what you could afford to.
I think £50 is a bit much...

I would get a little personalised gift. www.notonthehighstreet.com is a good site for little gifts that would mean a lot. Some are very reasonable :)
I also think £50 too much for a casual friend. have you asked what they want? From my experience most couples are asking for money or vouchers rather than gifts these days.
I think the amount depends on your level of affluence. By me that would be quite a lot.
Evening do for a casual friend - £20

Evening do for a friend that couldn't afford to have us on the day do - £50

Wedding guest - £100 - £200 (depending)
On the whole I'm not a fan of vouchers but for weddings it is a way of pooling lots of gifts to get what you want.

Buy whatever value you are comfortable with.

If by 'afters' you mean just the evening do then yes, I think 50 quid is too much'
You are not that good of a friend or else you would be going to the day do.
£50 seems a bit generous, but you might move in 'moneyed' circles for all we know. Just give what you can afford.
Are there any more of you going from your work? You can all club together and get something that's worth a wee bit more, maybe?
Don't be embarrassed into giving more than you should, anything you give should be received with gratitude.
Not so shallow Queenie.
