i think that chrisgel got it right, shock and awe, they post their vile acts on the net as well, so more of the people, the faithful, can see what they do to their enemies. I am not sure they are any more barbaric than some in more recent days, not when you look at what the so called civilised Germans did to anyone they didn't care for, shoved them into ovens alive, used for experiments, and gassed them by the millions.
