A Way To Silence Terrorists?
22 Answers
Back in the 1980's Margaret Thatcher imposed a media ban on the IRA and cut off their propaganda and publicity in the media.
Surely it must be possible to do the same with those that incite hatred, preach terrorism etc?
Seeing that odious man Anjem Choudary on Newsnight turned my stomach and made me think of this possible solution.
Your thoughts?

Beso, //Do we silence them as well?//
No, we have to respect them. ;o)
I'm in two minds about this. On the one hand, why give him the publicity, but on the other why not allow him to show himself for what he really is? I do think the media should ignore the poppy burners, so perhaps it should ignore people like him too. At least that way it would be difficult for him to have any impact at all on the population at large to whom he would just become a complete non-entity.

the media seem to seek him out at every turn, his face has appeared in many news programmes, in the papers, pictures of him at every rally promoting his brand of Islam, why not give more air time, space to those who oppose people like him. This man is a cancer in our society, his skewed ideology, views on gays, women's rights are well known. The fact he said he wants Sharia Law across Britain, that Buckingham palace will one day have a flag of Islam flying over it, does it actually have a flag, it should be funny, beyond parody, but remember the killers of Lee Rigby listened to this man's words, and more like him, we take him for a fool at our peril.
The BBC got round Thatcher's ban on Irish Republican spokespersons on television by having actors voicing their words. If that ban was reintroduced with the added proviso that the government could select the voice to be used, it might prove effective.

i can't understand why this man who is able bodied, hasn't been chased by the DWP as many people have been, for not looking for work, or does he consider being a hate preacher work. He gets over 25k a year in benefits, that is if you believe the papers, if so why, when others are struggling on much less than that who work for a living.

That's sort of what I think Naomi. I saw him on Channel 4 news and thought what an odious little turd he was. I reckon most people must think the same when they see him, so the best thing is probably just to give him all the airtime he wants.
