What is poll tax? Do you mean community charge? a much fairer way to do local funding than what we now have. Scotland were fortunate.
Did the poll tax mean that people who live on their own pay less?

Seems fair to me.

:0)

no tora, I mean poll tax, and just how were Scotland lucky ?
Poll tax was per head, we all pad it, not only Scotland. In some ways it was a lot fairer.
It was called the Community Charge...

Could do with another Maggie, put a bit of backbone into Westminster
I think it was aimed at each (adult) person paying their share and not having people funding others i.e. singles funding families. Always seemed a good idea to me.
yes Butterbun, Thatcher the milk snatcher, who despised us folk who live "north of Watford".
I thought the poll tax meant that the cost of providing local services was shared equally between the number of people eligible to use those services?
Council tax ..but still commonly known as poll tax.
there was a "poll tax" in the 17th century, perhaps that's what you mean, in the early nineties we had community charge, you know, where owning a property is not the sole condition to contributing to local authority funding.

Yes JJ and guess what else it didn't matter what sort of abode you lived in, marvelous it was, until the great unwashed discovered that they could no longer freeload.
I didn't know there was anything north of Watford.

Oh, there's St Albans.
murray, what we now have is council tax, what we had back in the early nineties was community charge.
