Ok, hypothetical lI know!

I wonder how the religious would cope. I dont think most of the religious could cope, they have mostly known no difference and I think they would live a life of denial. It would leave a vast empty hole that could never be filled.

I find the concept interesting, I know a few people that, if you took away their faith they would most likely fall apart.

Anne, it is a subject I find very interesting, I like to know. Its a genuine question, not having a poke at anybody :-)
How many countries are completely atheistic?
ok, hypothetically, I don't think I would ' fall apart''. nor would it leave a vast empty hole, believing in God is but one part of my life , I suppose I would be a bit disappointed , but it would not change me :)
Would not make any difference to me. I do not believe there is a God, but I do believe that human beings should try and help each other as much as possible rather than fighting and wars. I think that is what is called humanism. Organised humanism starts to look like religion again though.
On a tangent have there ever been any cultures anywhere in the world that never had any idea of a God / Gods or deity of some kind?
I have a lot of Christian friends who would be most upset if they found there was no god but I think they would do what their fellow Christians have been doing for hundreds of years, they would just reinvent him.

Ayg, I don't suppose there are any totally atheistic countries.
// What if it is proved that God does exist and so do heaven and hell. So what would you do then? //

The same thing as you'd do if it turned out you'd been praying to the wrong one all this time. Say 'oops. Sorry'.
Believing or not believing in god is personal .To try to take away or diminish a persons belief in such things could do a lot of damage to that person .So if you don't believe fine don't ,if you do believe fine but careful of others beliefs and feelings .Thread easy cause you may well be treading on some ones dreams .
//Believing or not believing in god is personal....Thread easy cause you may well be treading on some ones dreams . //

Fine - if it's kept personal - but it isn't. ISIS have dreams.

Weecalf, I only discuss religion with people that are open to such discussion, and people can clearly see by the title of this post what it is about so can easily avoid it.

Unlike many Christians I don't ram my beliefs down anybodies throats, My views can easily be avoided!
//I don't ram my beliefs down anybodies throats//
Well you sure had me fooled.
Khandro, atheism isn't a belief at least I believe it isn't :o)
they wouldn't accept it anyway. In physics there is virtually nothing that is provable beyond just repeatable experiments that give answers that fit with the theory. eg the crushing can experiment is done millions of times in schools throughout the world and we can say with almost certainty what will happen in advance but it still only an explanation that fits with the observation.
I think that the people who want to fight and bully and make divisions would find something else to fight and bully and make divisions over and those who just want to get along as best and as kindly as they can would do that too.

Jonathan Swift wrote about people who would fight over which end to open a boiled egg and I think there is truth in that.
I always assumed that even people who claim to believe in a god don't actually think a god exists - their religion is just a code of behaviour, a lifestyle and a chosen stance. Otherwise in an age where we KNOW that there's no deity and nothing divine going on, the 'believers' would have to be mentally ill to perpetuate such primitive and desperate 'beliefs'. And it's baffling when otherwise intelligent people still pretend to 'believe'. Brainwashing? Conditioning? Unquestioning? Probably.

That wasnt difficult!

How do I ram my opinions down anybodies throats?

I don't make anybody read my posts, it is a choice they make themselves to read them. I don't knock on anybodies doors, I don't stand on street corners and yelling at people, I don't appear on radio or television.

Please explain Khandro, how I ram it down peoples throats!
Question Author
Quizmonkey, of course people still believe it and are continuing to kill people in defence of their beliefs!
Question Author
woofgang, Im thinking on more of an emotional level, when it has been proven that their whole belief system was wrong. I think many hard core religious people would find a massive hole in their lives with nothing to replace it.
