In South Korea , women having a baby out of marriage are encouraged by their families to have abortions or put their baby up for adoption. Pastor Lee started the baby deposit box. I've just watched this on tv this morning, I don't know if this as some have voiced .. 'encourages' women to abandon their babies, or whether he's providing a vital service. I was very moved by his intentions anyway.

It's not the only country to have such things. Indicates a sick society that needs to correct its views on birth prior to a marriage ritual. But does indicate that sometime there is no immediate good option. In this case, as you say, it encourages society to continue its appalling attitude. But the intent for compassion is there.
These also existed at the doors of some medieval cathedrals on the continent.
I don't think it encourages women to abandon their babies. One must be in dire straits to do so. As O_G says, the country's attitude to babies born outside marriage needs to change. Thank goodness there is somewhere safe to take them to, though.
The source of this archaic attitude to unmarried mothers is the church. Then they expect accolades for this nonsense.
Was there a similar 'gate' in the Foundling Hospital in London?
