'poncification' - What's Your Complaint?

Ok, this is a 'whinge-in'.

'Poncification': when things in everyday life become 'poncified'.
I'm sure you know what I mean, but in case you don't, it's the pretentious tarting up of every day things we normally just accept as normal and mundane.

I'll give a couple of infuriating examples that irritate me...

1) Ferrero Rocher (thanks UKAnonymous for the inspiration) - sweets made to look like what they ain't.

2) 'Stand-alone' sinks in pubs that have been 'done up' complete with little squirty top soap/moisturiser dispensers.

restaurants that stack up chips like a game of jenga

food served on slate or wooden boards

'carpaccio' of anything -get a grip its just raw.....

pan fried, hand-cooked whtever

anything 'compote' - its stewed....

Maybe not poncified, but 'pan fried'. How else could something be fried?

In restaurants:

“Steak a la Bert Higgingbottom” (or whatever the chef’s name is). How should I know how Bert Higgingbottom cooks his steak? Why not say “steak with mushroom sauce” or whatever.

Knives and forks which have the business end and the handle at ninety degrees to each other (so you lay the knife blade flat and the handle sticks up; you lay the handle flat and the blade sticks up).

“Artisan” bread.

“Pan Fried” (what else does one fry things in?)

“Our Award-Winning…” (not much use without details of what the awards were.)

Frites

“Presented on a bed of….”

In shops:

“Customer Advisors” (shop assistants)
