Me and my dad don't have the best relationship that everybody else has and I want that relationship that everybody else has.

Everyones relationship with individual people in our lives is different .... you can never have exactly the same relationship with your dad that individuals you know have with theirs. I had a very strict dad who was not a cuddly type of dad like some of my friends had BUT I knew he wanted the best for me and have no doubt he loved me...but in his a little bit distant way....partly because his own life experience was different from many others. My brother did not have a good relationship with dad but that changed as he got older. You have not said what is wrong wth your relationship but sometimes we have to try to understand what may be affecting things...you could, of course talk to him....

In broad terms, the way, the only way, to start repairing any relationship is by talking....but not all relationships can be repaired and as ZM has said, not everyone has a wonderful relationship with either of their parents even though it might seem that way to outsiders
