Do you think, when the time comes, that Charles will be king or will he pass it on to his son, William?

I don't mind Charlie but i just don't think he's in touch with the real world. Wills seems to have a level head on, a decent family man and is liked by most of the country.

Of course, we could just buckle-up, hold tight and give it to Harry. Now that would be a fun ride!!!!!

It would be very unfair to Charles, unless his choice, given he has been prepared from birth to be king.

I also think it would benefit William and his family to have more time, especially with young children, before he becomes king. Not that they don't have the scrutiny and royal duties and such now, but I feel that being king would be significantly more restrictive than their lives at present.

I think I would dispute the fact that the queen does not have a useful job - I think that the mere fact that she is there with a right to veto any new law prevents silly new laws making it on to the statute books. Just suppose, for argument's sake, that Donald Trump decided to change the American Constitution such that he could remain president for as long as he likes ie, no more elections. His party has a majority in both houses, so it's possible. If a similar proposal went through our system the queen could refuse to give the royal assent and prevent that happening.

Yes she has Mikey because she knows "It's the will of the people" in this democracy. Simply knowing the limit is there stops utterly stupid proposals being put forward.

doesn't really matter what you think of the present monarch, the next in line or the concept of the monarchy; it isn't going to change any time soon. at present none of the main political parties, or none of those fringe parties with even a glimmer of electoral credence, are even discussing making republicanism a manifesto pledge, never mind actively campaigning for it. there could of course be a referendum, but on what grounds? at present there are dissenting voices, but the country isn't bitterly divided and there's no populist agenda for abolition of the monarchy. even if there was a referendum, what is the likelihood of a "republic" majority - even an AB Remainer "four fifths of five eighths of F-all" type majority that gets quoted on here repeatedly?

If the Queen caught the cold that I had in October, then she will be offline for another two,weeks! Streaming eyes and nose for acces, followed by Horrible catarrh then a hacking cough that lasted 6 weeks! And I'm a lot younger than she is!
It was pouring with rain at Sandringham yesterday, so I don't blame her for staying indoors!
