Although someone who was an ex 27 years ago is now a prominent feature in my life.

I saw her for the first time in some 15 years or more and didn't recognise her at first, although I should have because she was at our son's place of work, his business. She recognised me though and came over to say hello. I very, very rarely think of her but have of course not forgotten her - perhaps I will if I develop severe dementia - and I do not ever think badly of her although she made my life a misery for some 20 years. I take the view that I learned a lot from all of that and developed some form of "strength" out of it. In a sense it made me what I am.
The longest relationship I had before I met Mrs B. in '84 was 7 years.
We split up because we sort of grew apart. A number of years back Mrs B and I were on holiday in Cornwall, check into a Hotel quite late in the evening. Following morning Mrs B went downstairs to pay the bill, I brought the cases down 10 minutes later to find her happily chatting to my Ex who was behind the desk, turns out she and her new partner were the owners.
They come and stay with us a couple of times a year and we do the same with them, we no longer pay, we all get along just fine.
So definitely not forgotten.
I don't think of my ex's that much, only if they come up in conversation. But have to say that I'm quiet happily single now and intend to stay that way. I currently have a female 'friend' who has made it clear that she would like it to be more but I'm just not interested anymore, Ive got more of a life now than I ever had when I was in a relationship.
In a lot of ways I'm envious of Baldrics post (above) but that's not the way my own life panned out.

Its not unusual at all Nailit and I don't think your unlucky I think that sometimes you have to go through some frogs and frogettes before you meet the right one.
I was just in the right place at the right time, we have been through difficult times and could have broken up on a number of occasions but we decided to fight instead.
Thank you for the nice things you have said xx
