I think what Maajid is saying here is on the button.
We have a fair few on here who just want to shout 'RACIST' 'ISLAMAPHOBE' if there is any mention of Muslims.
Many with lots to say about everything but this particular topic.
And yes, anti Muslim/Islam numbers are growing.

I agree 100% with Maajid - the only snag is that every attempt to talk honestly about the abuse is hi-jacked by the "all muslims are abusers, it's their religion you know" faction.

I am often cautious in what I say, not necessarily through fear or cowardice but because I don't understand the half of it.

However, on AB if you try to posit the view that not all Muslims are a) abusers, or b) terrorists you are howled down as an 'apologist' or lectured to that you are under-informed, at best and more usually that you are ignorant of any facts and therefore talking through your hat.

There is far more of that occurring on this forum than the supposed 'racist/Islamaphobe' jeering that is supposed to occur.

I don't believe anyone thinks all Muslims (or any other group for that matter) are abusers; but there is a common belief that some cultures are more accepting of behaviour that appals us in the west. Is that a misunderstanding or has it some validity ?

He is talking nonsense, I've never heard anyone say ALL Muslim men are grooming young girls, have you? and it gets discussed by everyone and those who perpetrate these crimes are prosecuted, but it wasn't always so, it was only brought to the fore by pressure from the EDL (and they DO have right wing racists among their numbers), after years of the police and town councillors refusing to address the problem

I’ve always given my opinion, but I don’t believe I’ve ever heard anyone say ‘all Muslims are abusers’, as sunny-dave claims. It is a fact, though, that the mere mention of Muslims produces accusations of ‘anti-Muslim ranting’ and charges of Islamophobia and racism. Jack-the-hat says that posters are accused of being under-informed, but evidence would suggest that they are. If they aren’t, all I can say is that in order to appear liberal and accepting, some people are prepared to ignore unpalatable reality regardless of what that reality engenders. I think it’s what ‘they’ like to call … ‘tolerance’.

Well I've been around AB for a long time and I've never heard that said once, nor have I heard it said anywhere else. So if you agree, perhaps you can point out who has said this please.
