What did people say before they had lobotomies and said “Wow!” about EVERYTHING?

Is there no other word expressing surprise/delight/whatever?

When did WOW come to be the only word people know?

It isn't. You need to listen more. Wow has been used for as long as I can remember.

the one that gets me is, Literally after every sentence, grrr
not sure i've said wow today, or yesterday or...., my life must be free of wow moments

not sure whether to be happy or sad about that
I think it began just before everybody started a sentence with "so"but just after people started a sentence with "well".
Be proud and happy fluffy, I would use a swear word where others would say wow ;)

emmie: a bloke I worked with used to come out with phrases like “I literally died.”

Once he asked me “Are you inferring that I’m an idiot?”

“Stan,” I said, “I thought for a moment you were confusing ‘imply’ and ‘infer’, but on reflection you weren’t, and you were quite right.”

He went off scratching his head, literally.

The word that used to bother me was "basically"

Scattered about in sentences, willy-nilly, with a complete disregard for its relevance or meaning,

as in "Yeah, but basically like, blah, blah, blah........"

Just like Vicky Pollard !

Quite agree Mikey. I love words, but I do get upset when they’re misused/overused/etc - it’s the precision I like!
