Why should Great Britain apologise for past crimes, and open the door for compensation to people who were not born then?
India and Africa?
It wasn't my fault!
I don't think it would be a bad idea if the government wanted to apologise for the way Enoch Powell was treated, given the fact that his infamous speech has, in many ways, proved absolutely prophetic! Yes, that'd be nice. And perhaps a statue of him giving his speech, either on Parliament Square or welcoming people as they arrive at Dover- what do you reckon?
I spent some time in Israel. I was expected to apologise for the holocaust, simply because I am a gentile. Never mind the fact that I wasn't born when the holocaust happened, that I have nothing in common with nazis, and that no English person, (to my knowledge), has ever been accused of nazi war crimes. Still, I was expected to accept the guilt.
