Do you consider yourself a part,of a tribe?
Many people in other cultures give great importance to belonging to their own particular tribe.
We see it in football and other sports, and sometimes in our domestic politics.
Is an affinity to ones own kind racist?
Black people in the uk seem to have no problem belonging to the local black tribe, with community leaders, and common grievances.
Can poor old white Johnny English also belong to a tribe?
Is it something from other cultures we should embrace?
Black Lawyers Association, Black Police Officers Association, the list goes on and on. What do you think?
Most people are members of some organisation, club, or whatever, all of which can be labeled as tribal, Football fans, rugby fans, cricket fans, ex-military associations etc. So tribalism is alive and well.
Then I think most tribes are harmless. But what about, "White Flight, " where white folk feel overwhelmed by black and Asian immigrants and flee to white areas to be amongst their own tribe? My sympathy to them, but my sympathy could be labelled racist.
I don't belong to any 'tribe'.....and I wouldn't want to but I can see why some people do.. I have no understanding of why people herd around football matches ...that sort of tribe could disappear and not be missed...!
The same could be said for territorialism, isn't that why we mark out our territory with boundary walls, fences and hedges, even countries have borders, well some do.
