Roman Catholics have been allowed to become MPs since the passing of the Roman Catholic Relief Act 1829. Since then there has never been a ban on a RC becoming PM. (Tony Blair converted to Roman Catholicism).
The ban on anyone married to an RC from ascending to to British throne (imposed by the Act of Settlement 1701) was removed by the Succession to the Crown Act 2013.

5 Aug 2017 - There's absolutely nothing stopping a Catholic becoming PM. In fact, Iain Duncan Smith, leader of the Opposition during the early Blair years, was a Roman Catholic. Had he not resigned as leader and had the Tories won the 2001 General Election, he'd have become PM.

Why do they all trot off to church on a Sunday and whenever there is a catastrophy they say the victims etc are in our prayers. Oh that’s right religion. It is there already. We even have Muslim mayors around the country.
As JRM has been at pains to explain his religious views are his and even if he were PM he would not be able to change laws etc. They are conscious votes that anyone can vote any way they chose.
Using his religion as an excuse not to be PM is laughable. As is the way someone looks.
