Love him, or loathe him, after the events of this week so far, I would suggest the prospect of Jeremy Corbyn entering No.10 and becoming our next Prime Minister is now more likely than ever.

If May calls a General Election soon- (and won't she have to?) we could see a hardline Marxist in the number one job in Britain. Thoughts?

>Tax rate up to 90% for greedy high earners and get rid of them if they want to go and live in another country
So it's he politics of envy. The fact is we'd probably reduce teh tax take if we drive the highest eraners away.
Anyway who are these greedy high earners- footballers, senior doctors, ..? How many are there? What would the earnings figure be for a 90% tax. Even Corbyn/McDonnell wouldn't try that one
Jack , I know , maybe john smith?
10ClarionSt, //put the Income Tax rate up to 90% for greedy high earners and get rid of them if they want to go and live in another country.//

You mean the people who generate the wealth and jobs in this country? You Labour supporters are as out of touch with reality as your Marxist/Communist masters.

//The claim: Low and middle earners are bearing the burden of the tax take.

Reality Check verdict: The government is very reliant on richer people for its funding. More than a quarter of income tax is paid by the 1% of taxpayers with the highest incomes.//

Renationalise everything? With the wealthy forced out, what are you going to use for money?
PM COB, gawd help us!
In terms of trustworthiness, Corbyn is easily more reliable imho than anyone I can think of in the current Tory leadership. May has lied and backtracked over just about every single major policy or promise that has come out of her mouth since taking office, and the rest aren't much better. Corbyn on the other hand has barely changed his mind on anything for about 40 years. Say what you want about him - you know where he stands.

Of course, there are problems with that too - especially if 'where he stands' is not especially good (and it often isn't). Then there's also the fact that power has its own logic. If you want to get and/or keep power in the UK, there are people you need on your side. Very often, the people you need to get into power aren't the ones you need to keep it - and in any case their loyalty always has a price. Is that really a game Corbyn is well-suited to play? He's shown very few signs of it to me. The tories by contrast are essentially a political machine designed to do nothing else.
//Corbyn on the other hand has barely changed his mind on anything for about 40 years. Say what you want about him - you know where he stands.//

All the more reason not to vote for him. As for lying …. the less said the better about that.
The thing is, I kind of agree with the idea that Corbyn shouldn't become PM -- given a reasonable choice, that is. But at what point does it become just blinkered to insist that there is nothing -- nothing -- worse than letting him into No. 10? It seems incredible that you can look at the current powerless, dysfunctional leadership of the Tory party, and claim that "yeah, it's still perfectly fine compared to Jezza..."

Will that ever stop being true, for some people? Maybe not -- but it's scary if there's no meaningful way to hold the present government to account for their incompetence and petty infighting.
//it's scary if there's no meaningful way to hold the present government to account for their incompetence and petty infighting. //

Scary it may be - but there isn't.
//Just stand on the bank of the river and eventually the bodies of all your enemies float past...//

That's exactly what Corbyn has done, the Tories have done this to themselves, he's not even had to try. I'd prefer him as PM to the Tories, but I'd actually prefer it not to be him but to be Keir Starmer, still that's an ousting for another day :)
It never ceases to amaze me how so many people are content to be ruled by a government incapable of doing anything but stumble from one grotesque shambles to the next, meantime - at the highest level - squabbling like rats in a sack!
It has been said that a nation usually gets the government it deserves, so what ghastly 'misdemeanour' did the British commit to deserve the one we have had for the past eight years?
no one wants Mays brexit job as its an impossible task - hence Dave's resignation.

Kicking her from the sidelines seems everyones sport.
' what ghastly 'misdemeanour' did the British commit to deserve the one we have had for the past eight years?'

A small majority voted to make a Pro EU Govt leave the EU.
//Corbyn is easily more reliable imho than anyone I can think of in the current Tory leadership.//

that may well be true. could you, though, say the same thing about Seamus Milne? if you get Jeremy, you get Seamus. would you trust him to be that close to governmental power?
There are plenty of folk with all types of skills, including people who can employ others to generate wealth, and who don't feel the need to grab more than a fair share for themselves for managing that. The trouble is human nature being what it is, they are in the minority of folk with that skill; but if the tax levels were set correctly paying oneself fairly could be enforced, with those without scruples going elsewhere to see how they fair against others without scruples who are already operating there.
all the rescue ferry services off libya would be directed to the uk, with corbyn at the docks, brown envelopes stuffed with your cash as welcome to the uk..swathe of antifa unemployed cheering them in
and or any new build social housing keys given out freely to them.
Get Corbyn in! Every reply so far emphasizes how much he SHOULD be PM. Bring it on!
As awful / unworthy the torys are, JC. Is not a suitable PM. I do believe he is decent man, but as a opposition leader he is useless. Labour must find a more capable person to lead Labour in the next general election .
Anne, It's not a change in leadership they need, it's a change in their belief in prodigality that needs to change.
Another smear Corbyn thread, with plenty of unpleasant epithets but little evidence to back them up. Typical Fascisti.
wonderful to see everyone diligently frothing at the mouth over Abbott while even more diligently looking the other way as May loses yet another minister, over some pretty horrendous behaviour

Not a single thread about about a gutter Tory, just fancy that! Better a sex pest than a black woman, that's what I say!
