While I have strong views about the on going misery that is everyday life for many dispossessed Palestinians I wouldn't want to be seen as anti-Semitic. What should I not say that might appear to indicate that I am?

Point out that the Palestinians are as much a victim of their own government as anyone else, and that Gaza, for example, is blockaded by Egypt too.
Then you can be branded an Islamophobe too :-)

I think honesty is needed. I met and befriended a very pleasant and interesting Israeli couple when I was in Bangkok. We steered clear of politics, but both sides were clear that criticism of Israeli politics (they were critical of some parts) was nowhere near anti-Semitism - you have reminded me to get in contact. Nice couple, 14 kids (12 adopted special needs).

You should not say anything that is undeservedly critical of Israel, as the United Nations do.
Try to understand how the Palestinians are simply pawns in the game played by both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority.
Mahmoud Abbas is in year ten of his four year term of office. Israel could give all the Palestinians a much better life if allowed to, but that goes against the prevailing Arab agenda.
