just wondered if it's ok in today's enlightened times to sing about a "natural woman" - is a natural woman considered more valid than one declared or created (say, by surgery and hormone injections)?

You're forgetting the 'You make me feel' bit out.
To me a natural woman is one without botox fillers, Lipo and hormone fillers.
I often feel like a natural woman; rarely find one interested though :-(
It's a popular choice in lbgt karaoke bars, usually sung by the blousiest drag queen however it was done very well in the Spiral staircase one night by a very demure 40 something trans woman to a gentleman in the audience.
A natural woman is a any woman who is comfortable in her own skin, be that a make up free earth mother, a glamour model full of fillers and implants, a trans woman or a cross dresser. Great song in any event.

I have moved this thread into the category "Society & Culture".
An interesting point mushroom.

Like all cultural items, this song is of its time, and the theme speaks to a woman who feels secure in the love of her man, and 'enjoys' him loving her.

It was written long before plastic adjustments were conceived, much less the norm.
