Self Aggrindisement?

Giving yourself a personality and behavioural assessment, do you ever think you act or speak in a way that is a, "put down," to others, whilst promoting yourself with regards to skill, intellect, expertise, etc?

I ask this as often I have felt like I am targeted for my beliefs, not simply in a way that is constructively critical, but motivated by self promotion and pure pleasure of the fabulous, "put down."

Or maybe I am just suffering from victimhood and paranoia.

Oh well. Something to be slinging mud about for.
Or an excuse for the slinging of mud.
Or welcome to the mud slinging fest.

I think there are people who constantly put others down because it makes them feel better about themselves. There are one or two on this site who are guilty of just that. You've just got to grow a thick skin.

The converse problem, of course, is not giving a hoot what anyone else thinks -- and, if anything, that's even more damaging. Where is the incentive for self-improvement if you never have an interest in the opinions of people around you?

I have said many many times on this site, and many many times to you personally Theland, that my issue with Christianity, is Christians.

It's the way in which Christians address non-Christians in that rather patronising superior way that implies that they have something that I don't have, but need, and they are a better person for having their belief, and I am a poorer person for not sharing their faith.

I have to say Theland, that in your posts on here, you come across as a twenty-four carat exponent of that way of behaving, and unsurprisingly, it receives a hostile response.

Intelligent people do not respond well to being talked down to, whatever the subject. Add to that your wilful and persistent refusal to engage properly in debate with people who question what you say, and you start to see why you receive the responses that you do.

You cannot on the one hand say "I have the answers, and here they are ..." and expect everyone to agree with you, and not challenge what you say.

If your faith commands you to share 'The Word', then fine, but you can't then go all thin-skinned and hurt when other people simply don't believe what you say.

If you dial down the patronising, and increase the interaction, you will have a far more pleasurable experience debating on here.

I shall take that on board. Thank you.
The land
you should collect the put-downs and treasure them
( bless them, Lord for they do not know what they do and so on)

Some put downs I read here, I wouldnt have used at primary school (spelling my name, PeePee springs to mind - not wishing to be catty).
and if you use a word of more than two syllables - like Theology then someone will quip sidesplittingly - "you bin on the sauce again den?" again and again. It makes yer ribs ache.

Self-deniers - 'I have no comment to make' er sorry that was just a comment ....
"My name may be "XY" but I am not X and not Y" - blimey I can see why you call yourself XY

day after day - it is the only thing that keeps me going some days- there is always something to laugh at in AB

have fun !

Best answer because it resonated with me.
I try not to put down or belittle others, I feel that diminishes me not the one I might try to put down.

I'm sure I err sometimes in exasperation , try not to though.

I see belittlement meted out day after day on here and I cringe but also smile at the resignation and calmness of those targeted - Peter for example as he states above.

We all have our foibles but I think that ABers are really great and a nice group of, "friends," if I may be so liberal.
In the main, I agree with you.
I think it is very neat that another believer in the one true faith has emerged [see R & S]. They can make statements to each other, not bother to answer, put up weird videos and have a wonderful time together.

Muntin- Yes party time!
Who here amongst us is the one who subscribes to the belief that the rest of us are doomed to an eternity infinitely worse than what they seem to believe they are suffering here and now? Even so, it is for that very same one that I weep, not in spite of but rather because of what they choose to believe.

Mibs - my beliefs enrich my life here and now.
