On another thread I tentatively tried to imagine what the EU would do if we stayed a member.
I said something like:-
2021 - EU army or something like that.

Would you try to guess seriously what legislation we could expect if we remained, and be overruled if we objected?

Oh go on then, a few funny ones as well. You know you want to.

Good point, Prudie...most of them were occupied
I just thought I’d point out an obvious one, seeing as you were struggling.
And you both think that's why we won the war?
An EU army would have been vetoed by the U.K. and therefore not occurred: now we’re leaving, however ...
//The French resistance played their part.//

Supplied and trained by British SOE agents.
I think the collective effort of all the allies has a big part to play. For example, it helped rather a lot that the Russians were on our side, too...

What I'm saying is that it's ... well, offensive, frankly, to dismiss the contributions of our European Allies in WWII.
I never said anything about thinking the French resistance were the reason we won the war. That would be a bizarre claim. I merely pointed out that there were some EU citizens who did, following your statement that you were struggling to think of any.
Offensive?? You really are just constantly looking to put people down.
Bye

It's not offensive to say it as it is... many European countries capitulated rather easily.
K bye.
So would have we, too, but for the English Channel. In the first months of the war, anyway, our own army was rather soundly beaten a few times. Just because geography was on our side isn't a reason to sneer at the rest of Europe.
The geographical significance of the English Channel mustn’t be overlooked in our winning WWII.
You can't debate with jim on a level playing field, Prudie...he went to Camford uni...or summat.
Despite all the evidence to the contrary, why do so many people, (some on here) think that making things bigger and more complicated makes them better?

A EU army would suit Germany though, because its own at the present time is risible; helicopters can't fly (no spare parts) tanks don't function, (though they are now designed to accommodate pregnant women!)

I have a neighbour who is a professional soldier, he tells me the young recruits are a pathetic bunch - you mustn't shout at them as it infringes their human rights and they all have to have their own comfortable rooms with TVs
I didn't go to Camford to study history. I just read about it.

It's a simple statement of fact that (a) we had a lot of European allies, whose efforts should not be sneered and, and (b) we enjoyed more than a little luck early in the war, that probably helped save the British from the disaster that hit the rest of the continent.

Acknowledging both these things doesn't minimise our own contribution, but it's possible to be respectful of the French, Belgians, etc at the same time.
Judging by the picture in todays papers of the seriously overweight soldier would they still want us.

/// we enjoyed more than a little luck early in the war, that probably helped save the British from the disaster that hit the rest of the continent. ///

Try telling that to those who waited on the beaches of Dunkirk to be picked up and of course the heroic young pilots that won the Battle of Britain.
I wonder how many of those who have no objections to an EU army would feel the same if the EU introduced conscription for their army?
//I never said anything about thinking the French resistance were the reason we won the war. That would be a bizarre claim. I merely pointed out that there were some EU citizens who did,//

would they have been EU citizens in the 1940s? perhaps I missed something, but I believed the EEC dated from 1957, and the EU didn't exist before 1993...….
//An EU army would not be compulsary,/[email protected] Sun.

Really O'Reilly? France has already mooted the idea of conscription for the young unemployed masses of indeterminate heritage. I wrote this earlier.

"Mrs Meerkat isn't going to like this "compare the (Common) Market" to other organisation dot cons. is she? How she must wish that they had an army of millions to threaten the dissenters just like the original Soviet State did.(Remember Hungary). They don't have the "manpower", nor you may think millions of young able bodied men with no discernable employment or train and equip. They certainly wouldn't likely find them amongst the indigenous European populace would they. However have there not recently just been millions of just such young able bodied men imported into the EUSSR? Maybe that is the ultimate plan. Why not persuade them to take on the role of EUSSR enforcers with the promise of a stake in the future of the ponzi scheme? An EUSSR army(which they greatly covet) in the making. The new Mamaluk army of conquest and enforcement anyone? "
