Do you think we are a compassionate society, given the number and demand for food banks?
Kids go to bed hungry?
People on hard times have benefits stalled or stopped for superfluous reasons, sometimes resulting in eviction?
Army veterans, in spite of the British Legion and SAAFA, find themselves facing hardship and the governments promises to a military promise is just a sad memory?
We all had to bail out the bankers, and the CEO of Persimmons just got a £75,000,000 bonus.
The numerous questions should be obvious by now!

Theland...do you actually go out?
Question Author
Every day.
//Naomi, don't you ever watch the news or documentaries? //

I do. Who are all these children who go to bed hungry and where are they?
And actually mix with people?
Question Author
Yes Ummm, I do.
Naomi, in every city and town.
Theland, you're talking rubbish.
What kind of people are you mixing with? I've been brought up surrounded by people and the vast majority are nice.
Theland has been reading too much Dickens.
Question Author
Oh dear! Listen to the Birkenhead MP Frank Field.
Seriously Theland a good 95% of people are absolutely lovely, and the 5% who aren't - you don't know their story x
Some children might go to bed hungry but only a small proportion.
// the CEO of Persimmons just got a £75,000,000 bonus//

...confirming the old adage that you can't go wrong by putting your money into bricks and mortar.

Oh, back to the OP. Compassionate? By and large yes.

But I think there are higher virtues than compassion, for instance truth and justice.
//Listen to the Birkenhead MP Frank Field. //

What's he said?
britians so nice we get illegal migrants sneaking over from france, who having made there way across europe from africa asia to get here.
Theland, I'm quite sure that as a kid I often went to bed hungry as a limited form of WWII rationing was still in force. I do not recall being in any documentaries or in any breaking news items. I do hope that you're not attempting to equate hunger with starvation in order to make your claims more dramatic and grandiose.
Some of those points don't make sense, Canary. I'd guess the vast majority of AB users didn't have central heating as a child. We had just a gas fire in the living room.
Canary, I've tried that. Poverty doesn't equate to hunger.
Question Author
What's he said? Hard evidence that some women have worked as prostitiutes to feed their kids.

Also well documented how some teachers but food from their own pocket to give hungry kids some food before they attempt to teach them.

I can't believe this!

Come on Nailit, you are at the sharp end of the struggle against poverty. Tell us of your experiences.
