A traditional French Christmas will usually include: smoked salmon and oysters with bran bread and (real) butter, foie gras (goose or duck liver pate), goose, capon or turkey stuffed with chestnuts and served with vegetables like green beans cooked with garlic and butter and provincial herbs sautéed potatoes.

Popular around where my house is is a version of Paella with chicken, chorizo and fruits de mer. Often eaten on Christmas Eve.

They also have a traditional Christmas cake called 'buche de noel' which is basically a chocolate covered rolled cake similar to a Swiss roll.

I have had several Christmas meals in US with family and ham didn't feature particularly. Where did you get that idea from?

They eat the traditional turkey. Also they love their Xmas cookies.

French families tend to eat their Christmas meal on Christmas Eve.
I dont remember ever having ham...strange.
But at easter...yes.
Why not ask if Frenchwomen serve the food? Even in France, I suspect that they do the domestic cooking.
