I think it was a bone-headed knee-jerk election promise made by a candidate who thinks there is no such thing as a complex problem, and everything has a simple solution.

If President Trump genuinely wants to prevent illegal immigration, he needs to tighten up his country's visa and border controls, because the majority of illegals are visitors who have outstayed their visas and the majority of drugs come through the existing borders.

A wall is a futile waste of serious money which could be used in the areas described - but it appeals to bone-headed racists, and that is the voting demographic that was targeted by this stupidity.

Long may President Trump enjoy the embarrassment of failing to think through something before opening his mouth - again.

Do you have evidence supporting that? From what I’ve read only about 50% of illegals have overstayed their visa. The rest make it across unguarded stretches of border – often with the assistance of people traffickers. Mr Trump should build his wall.
