From the (quite considerable number) that I've been able to overlook when they were seated next to me on trains or buses, they have been either scrolling through pages of inane drivel, looking at pictures of their friends' dinners or watching "YouTube" clips of dogs playing the accordion.

I think many would love to turn the phone off, but as Prudie said - more and more have to be contactable and a lot are 'on call', not just the young either.

My son in law is and they pay no heed to when they expect him to be available.

Yes, Naomi. It's photos photos photos and they'll appear online. If someone takes out a camera phone in front of me I'll turn my back.

That's their life though. Pop into the pub after work and some knobster wants to your picture!

The pressures alter with each era to a point.
