I don't find that, my husband holds the door open for me, I walk in and the waiter/ress greets me and then husband when he has joined me.
You're going to the wrong restaurants.
Stay at home and clean the kitchen if you're worried about imagined slights.
Mrs NJ is often ignored when we visit establishments we may not have previously frequented. As the two of us arrive we're increasingly greeted with "Good evening, guys".

Depending on her mood Mrs NJ replies with (something like) "I must have changed sex/I must have "identified" as male/ don't you serve ladies in this restaurant?/do I look like a "guy"?/we're leaving". (I'm sure you get the drift).

Staff in customer facing roles need to shape up and learn to address people properly. I find it absolutely infuriating that staff (not only in restaurants) have to address females as "guys". If you wonder why this is, just imagine if a mixed couple were addressed as "girls".
I have never ever had this happen to me....not the invisible woman thing or the "guys" thing....maybe you guys are both going to the wrong establishments? Melodyrys are you in the UK?
It may be they greet the first person who is presumably taking the lead. Try going in first and asking for a table.
Dictionary Definition: "Sometimes guys means people, both men and women"

Quite so. The "sometimes" being those occasions where the people concerned are too lazy to use something more appropriate. Nothing too tricky, nothing from Debrett's. You know, something like "Good evening to you both"
What's wrong with:
Good evening, Sir, Madam?
Jesus. I thought we’d left Victorian etiquette back in the C20th.

More's the pity. Todays uncouth youth are quite happy to sit down to a meal wearing their baseball caps and picking up their chips and other food items with their hands whilst dipping said items in mayo or ketchup.
All dexterously achieved whilst gaping at their Iphone in the other hand. :-(
We tend to frequent the same, familiar restaurants when we go out for a meal, so it's usually, 'Hello Mr and Mrs Trotter! How are you both?'
Maybe there's a sticker for sticklers looking to dine in the 21st century without clashing with the help.

I'll check Yellow Pages and Exchange & Mart until a more convenient medium is invented. I'll send a telegram if I find anything. :-)
Oh yes. Bring back waiters in tuxedos and dress codes. Menus in French, maybe?
Multi tasking !,,,,,,
Last time I ate out, I had to endure dreadful background music and the service was dreadfully slow despite my constant complaints.
I was furious.
Won't be going back down mum's house for dinner in a hurry, I can tell you.
Spicerack, does your mum force you to eat all your vegetables?
If I want my pud, of course.
The restaurant we mostly go to is the Indian one, just up the road from us. We usually go with a friend, they know us well and come and say hello and shake hands with us all.
Not really encountered the being ignored thing much, couple of times maybe but then the men were ahead and thus were the ones being spoken to, I imagine if I'd have been first they'd have spoken to me. I've been included in the 'guys' thing sometimes at very informal restaurants, but at formal restaurants never.
