'claiming' Behaviour...?
10 Answers
Im trying to find a variety of examples of this and a more indepth analysis of it.
i am aware it doesnt have a definitive meaning exactly, its open to interpretationan of what constitutes it and can be circumstantial.
everytime i google etc - i get stuff about claiming benefits and adopting and other stuff, so its becoming irksome.
if you know of a good link or can give example that would be great thanks

its nothing to do with claiming benefits. the links bring up literally claiming money from the government like job seekers allowance etc.
i am not sure how to describe it really - hence the question, but i take to mean something like, someone who becomes too familiar, takes vague credit for things they werent part of, acting like they have more sway with a person than they do, takes liberties because they think they're close than they are - does that make sense?
im not entirely sure i have it right really either. ive just come across the phrase a few times over the years, and wondered what it meant and the other day i saw it again, but there was no description - so just curious really.

it makes me think of david brent a bit, you know when he stands behind someone else who is talking and hes nodding and mumbling and trying to subtly 'ride' the other persons wave - but he sort of does it naturally and its for his own mind as much as to make a display of it.
or like the person who stands beside a celebrity and acts all 'i'm part of the inner circle' and it boosts their ego - but they havent earned the right to feel that way.
or the fan of a band who thinks because theyve had a chat with their fave, they have become friends, and they will approach them that way in future, whereas the celeb only remembers them vaguely if at all.
its all kind of subtle and sort of internal - its refelcted glory and pride that isnt real
i dont even know if i have it right - this is just the conclusions

An overinflated sense of self importance for example, is a trait of a narcissist. Try this link and search for similar.
