He is just after free publicity ! If McDonalds did that every fast food outlet, take away and shop would have to do the same ! There is a MUCH better solution. Just make all fast food outlets use ONLY Bio Degradable bags . This is already the case in many places !
Eddie - they don't degrade overnight!!

Eddie, it isn't just the bags that are chucked - it's all the food and drink packaging too.
Northamptonshire County Council don't have the funds for bin bags, Ummmm.

I wondered that. We are suppose to use green bags (council issued) but now everyone is putting out black bags. Me, the mug, have been buying my own green bags.
" Northamptonshire now has three tiers of local government: the county council; seven lower-tier councils, comprising four borough councils (Corby, Kettering, Northampton, Wellingborough) and three district councils (Daventry, East Northamptonshire, South Northamptonshire); and more than 250 parish councils.
Perhaps if it had less councils....
It annoys me that my council constantly bangs the 'green' drum but stops people who live in the neighbouring council area using their recycling centre even though it is on the border. We should all be able to use the centre closest to where we live, it would all even itself out.
Some councils stop the volunteer litter pickers. Health & Safety and all that. Apparently you need training to use those litter picking sticks safely.
My little bit of Northampton is really good. I drove through a council area and was shocked. I could have been in a different town.
//The best option would be if all fast food restaurants as well as burger stands, coffee bars and similar all used biodegradable packaging.//

No. The best option would be for those establishments to provide food and drink only for consumption on their premises. Serve the food on a plate and the drink in a cup or glass. No food to be taken from the premises.

This stupid idea of eating and drinking in the street or in a car is the cause of the problem. Discourage that and there would be less litter.
I totally agree with you, NJ.
My home town is notorious for litter it's dreadful. The council have had numerous campaigns to try and educate the public and change their behaviour. I actually went on a community litter pick earlier in the year. Until people actually start taking a pride in their community I don't see this getting any better.
It's not just people taking pride in their community- it's people being irresponsible. I regularly pick up waste which has obviously been chucked out of a vehicle. I don't understand why people can't just take it home and bin it.

I like the idea of reg numbers being printed on packaging but it's not enforceable practically. It might stop a few tho.
I think fly tippers are only encouraging them
How do you mean, weecalf?
