Is It Time ?

Is it time for the better off in this country to make a non-detrimental financial contribution to a government fund to help those who will suffer most in thisCovid 19 pandemic ?
Personally I think it would be the ideal opprtunity for the Royal family to set an example here which might encourage the many thousands of extremely well off from tycoons to professional footballers and beyond. It would releive a lot of suffering.

But even if 1 million other people did the same it would hardly make a difference. The problem is far too big. But money will have to be pumped in to support those too ill to work and those laid off and we are all going to have to pay for it eventually.
The richest (apart from the tax avoiders) already pay the bulk of the tax here and that will continue to be the case when the taxes go up in a year or so.

Well, thanks for your answers but I did refer to 'a non-detrimental' contribution and if I were, say, a proffesional footballer I would willingly make a one-off donation of a week's wages to the pot, that's hardly 95% of a top player's pay - not a 'penalty' , a voluntary contribution. And although I'm retired and far from 'rich' I could muster up a hundred or two without breaking the bank. It's called 'Philanthropy' and helping the genuinely affected -not scroungers.
