Im sure he was right on some things and wrong on others
No, he never actually predicted anything.
Question Author
Then why did some of his predictions come true?
Nosttradamus largely "covered all the bases" (to use a horrid American phrase) by making predictions which would eventually come true anyway.

e.g. I'm prepared to predict that:
(a) it will rain at some time in the UK ;
(b) a celebrity will appear in court on charges related to drugs and sexual offences ;
(c) there wil be tsunami in the Far East ;
(d) there will be a major earthquake causing severe structural damage, and not insignificant loss of life, affecting San Francisco and the surrounding area ;
(e) Covid-19 will be far from the last of global pandemics to affect our planet; there will be more to come.

As long as you're prepared to wait long enough (which might only be for a day or two or you could have to stay alive for a few decades or even for a few centuries), I'm prepared to offer a 100% GUARANTEE that every single one of my predictions will come true!

Should I change my name to Nostradamus the Second, do you think?

;-)
Question Author
Yes
none of his "predictions" have come true. he made a load of "predictions" that were so loose that they could be interpreted in any way desired by the sorts of people that go in for that sort of cobras.
crikey chicostradamus is among us!
"Then why did some of his predictions come true?"

All of his predictions have either come true already or will come true soon. All we have to do is interpret them correctly.

Pick one of his quatrains which seems to be about the end of the world and, when the world ends, Bob's your uncle! Job done.

The one about Hitler is my favourite. Utter bottom gravy.

Was he a poet then jim
A stopped clock's right twice a day, proves nothing.
Right or wrong about what?

Being right
// Should I change my name to Nostradamus II, do you think?//

but surely you can tell what the outcome of that suggestion is?
I tried that a few weeks ago - Peter the Prophet or something and called down the wrath of lay gurlz de AB on me

one protestation on my part
slandered, libelled, words I aint heard in the Bible
got erased at the order of one of them !
I was shocked (again)
Was he a poet? Well, inasmuch as he published in quatrain, I suppose so.

Geoffrey Chaucer, who died over 100 years before Nostradamus was born, also wrote in structured verse form, usually iambic pentameter. However, Chaucer is readily readable by modern English speakers, albeit with a little instruction on Middle English, whereas Nostradamus' quatrains are little more than strings of Middle French words which are essentially impenetrable to modern French speakers and rely on "interpretation". Of course, each Nostradamus scholar has his own interpretation!

Can you interpret this one?

At the time of the preparation of the evening feat
Four intrepid chancers take their stand against the Beast
Untold riches come from interrogation
Or catching leads to damnation
Oh I have one:

Two letters and empty words in the Forum (A)
I always seem to get it in the neck, by Heck ! (B)

Interpretation - two letters - - Hmm AB perhaps ? yes !
and empty words in the forum - - oh that is AB all right, full of hot air
by Heck - oh that must mean Hecuba - sacred to oracles innit? and mother to Cassandra

and PP gets it in the neck on a regular basis
god you can predict THAT again !

someon must have predicted covid for chrissakes ....
I like my one better Jim
Question Author
God I wished I have never asked now
Such was the cry of many on here. ‘Specially those who posted in chatterbank.
I think The Simpsons predictions were better.
Fool from the right rarely civil
Onlookers drown in endless drivel
Mind closed and unstable
Speaks in codes impenetrable
