Does Wearing A Face Mask In Public Places Create A False Sense Of Security?

The end of queuing for shops, the removal of directional markings, and people seemingly more relaxed about keeping their distance from others, it seems to me that social distancing isn’t being anywhere near so rigidly observed now that face coverings are mandatory and I suspect that masking up might be the reason. What do you think?

since it's assumed - as they are "protecting" the majority from the infected - they are being worn by the asymptomatically infected, then it follows that this detritus is hazardous waste.

If the face coverings (they aren't masks) as they are currently worn, work, then medical staff would be using them. Why are they bothering with better equipment, if a couple of layers are enough? It is entirely down to risk assessment really. As you are unlikely to be in contact with anyone with covid... it's fine.
