27 Answers
Our Government organised a furlough scheme to ensure that people who could not work received an income and they also organised schemes to protect, as best they could, businesses and the economy. What have other countries done?

// Economics professor Ceyhun Elgin has been working with colleagues around the world to track the responses in 166 countries.
By his calculations, Japan's response has been among the most aggressive, with a spending package estimated at roughly 20% of the country's economy.
That compares to rescue spending estimated at roughly 14% of GDP in the US, 11% in Australia, 8.4% in Canada, 5% in the UK, 1.5%. //
So while we are spending eye-watering £ amounts of borrowed money, compared with the rest of the world, the UK Government is not being generous.

No, teacake, I don't know - which is why I asked. I do feel that our government is the target of rather a lot of unfair criticism - I've no doubt they're well-intentioned but they can't do right for doing wrong - and so I wondered how other governments are faring and whether they are receiving similar criticism.
naomis right teacake, all of are UK goverments have gotten unfair criticism (aswell as some fair criticism off course). An obvius example is some saying we lockdowned to late some saying we shouldnt of locked down at all. Some saying we should stop peopel flying in then others saying we are destroying holiday busineses by making peopel quarentine. Some said why arent we told to wear masks then when we are told some object. Some say test and trace is no good others says there not downloading the app or taking any notice
If there is any unfair criticism, its coming from government towards the public. Why? being blamed for the spread of the present infection, when really they've failed ( after 8 months) to have a track and trace that works, it was them that decided to open up the pubs, and every thing else without one. From the very beginning the UK government ignored the advice of the WHO, it was test test test, not rest rest rest.
Teacake
Perhaps you will feel less hard done by and stop your constant whingeing and political posturing if you read that the rest of Europe are not faring any better than our Government's efforts. Personally I get little comfort from this article but I am sure you will find something to bemoan.
